Founders spend years learning what execution really looks like: who can ship, when a market is actually moving, what separates a real business from a good story. That experience is genuinely valuable on the other side of the table, but it’s raw material, not the finished skill. Investing asks different questions than building. As a founder, you commit everything to one bet and make it work. As an angel, you make many small bets, most of which fail, and your job is judgment, not execution. Some of the instincts that made you a good operator can even work against you: falling in love with a product, backing founders who remind you of yourself, believing effort beats odds.
In this session, we’ll open up that shift together: which founder instincts carry over, which need retraining, and what the investor mindset asks you to develop from scratch.
