The Story Continues

​Have you ever heard the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words?"

​Well, that's what Janet Douglas epitomises through her work. The Chapters of Our Lives is an interactive exhibition that captures the stories of several Birmingham-based artists, creatives and influential people that Janet had interviewed over a period of time, allowing us to see – and hear – life from their perspectives.

​The Exhibition uses audio recordings to bring every image to life, offering a historic context to Black life in Birmingham. It asks us to think about our own ephemera, and how important they are in telling stories of the past.

​Like Janet says, "The dash between the year we are born and the year that we die is the chapters of our lives."

​“The Chapters was always meant to be a way to connect with audiences in a tactile way. You go to exhibitions and are not allowed to touch the exhibits. This exhibition encourages you to touch and explore."
