🌍 The Birthday Tree Movement: Turning Birthdays into Climate Action
Every birthday is more than a personal celebration—it is an opportunity to give back to the planet. The Birthday Tree Movement, hosted as part of Idealist Days 2026, is a global virtual gathering that brings together sustainability leaders, academics, ESG professionals, environmental advocates, youth changemakers, nonprofits, and community members to explore how simple individual actions can create measurable environmental impact.
The event will showcase the inspiring 88 Birthday Trees Challenge, a campaign led by the Every Birthday Tree Day Initiative (EBTDI), encouraging people to plant trees equal to their age on their birthdays and inspire others to do the same. Participants will hear from distinguished speakers, including Dr. Dennis Daniel Ssemugenyi, Founder and Pioneer of EBTDI, and Dr. Mary Nanyondo of Durham University Business School, UK, who will share practical insights on transforming personal commitments into lasting sustainability outcomes.
The discussion will be moderated by Derrick Luyimbaazi Kaggwa, Coordinator and Executive Director of EBTDI and Founder of the Roots of Tomorrow Initiative (RoTI). Whether you are a student, researcher, policymaker, NGO leader, business professional, or simply passionate about protecting our planet, this event offers an opportunity to connect with a global community committed to turning ideas into action. Together, we can restore ecosystems, strengthen communities, combat climate change, and make tree planting on birthdays a global tradition.
