About Event

Rather than defaulting to “efficiency” as code for budget cuts, this workshop will explore what it takes to build science and technology systems in government that are adaptive, trusted, and fit for purpose. Through problem-driven discussion and hands-on activities, participants will identify which elements of the current S&T ecosystem to preserve, which to refine, and where a full system reboot may be needed. The goal is to generate a shared language and practical insights for strengthening government’s capacity to steward science and technology from the inside out.

Outcomes of the meeting:

  • Develop hands-on, workshop-generated policy ideas and pathways to advance them.

  • Gain perspectives from inside and outside government on the future of the U.S. S&T ecosystem.

  • Participate in an interactive world-building session to surface nuanced strategies for navigating today’s policy and political environment.

What to expect:

  • A full-day, interactive workshop on the future of the U.S. science and technology ecosystem, beginning with a panel discussion on emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in S&T policy, education & workforce, and government capacity.

  • The heart of the day will be a two-part world-building workshop, where participants will imagine what federal science and technology policy should look like in 2030. Teams will develop “Blueprints” and trade notes, with space for group discussion and prioritization.

  • We’ll close by surfacing the most resonant ideas, tradeoffs, and policy levers.

We welcome participants from across the spectrum—policy professionals, students, scientists, and non-scientists alike!
