What Counts as an Original Contribution in Research Enabled by AI? is an academic panel on one of the biggest questions raised by Generative AI in research: when AI helps with writing, coding, analysis, literature search, or idea development, what still counts as the researcher’s own contribution?

The discussion will bring together perspectives from academia and practice to explore originality, intellectual contribution, accountability, validation, and the boundary between using AI as a research tool and delegating too much of the intellectual work.

We will also discuss questions such as how researchers should document AI use, who remains responsible for errors, whether the availability of the same AI tools changes how originality should be judged, and what meaningful human contribution looks like in AI-assisted research.

Who should come? Students, doctoral researchers, academics, researchers, professionals, and anyone interested in how Generative AI is changing research practice, authorship, originality, and academic responsibility.
