About Event

What does effective forest restoration look like on private lands—and what will it take to scale it? On this tour, participants will visit two Sonoma County properties that exemplify the impact of the North Bay Forest Improvement Program (NBFIP), which provides funding and technical assistance to help landowners implement wildfire resilience projects. Landowners will share their experience navigating the program, from planning to execution, reflect on the benefits for their properties and surrounding communities, and why support for private property owners is essential to meeting California’s restoration goals.

Additional speaker include:
- The CEO of Watch Duty, the nonprofit wildfire alerting app that has become indispensable across the Western US
- The CEO of Megafire Action, the nonprofit developing and securing policy solutions to the megafire crisis.
- The CEO of Blue Forest, whose Forest Resilience Bond has unlocked millions of dollars for restoration on public lands and is building out its financing for private lands.

Property descriptions:
"Situated off-the-grid on almost 200 acres of untouched wildland with no recorded history of fire, this oak woodland and redwood forest has undergone thinning and burning practices.  With the help of Sonoma RCD, funded in part by NBFIP and EQUIP grants, we have restored much of the property back its natural habitat"
"Fred Euphrat's Bear Flat: Three generations of family manage the 416acre forest, which had been in a heavily logged condition. Multiple forest management activities include planting, thinning, invasive plant removal, logging, - and more recently, salvage logging from the Walbridge fire."

Attendees will come away with a deeper understanding of how local action, innovative finance, and cross-sector collaboration can scale solutions. The program ends with wine tasting at the biodynamic and regenerative Davero Farms and Winery.
