About Event

Co-hosted by EcoJudaism and the Bahu Trust at the Faith Hub, Blue Zone, CBD COP17 (Yerevan, Armenia).

Led by Kamran Shezad and Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, with reflections from Naomi Verber

Nature and biodiversity are central to the sacred traditions of Islam and Judaism. Both faiths offer rich bodies of scripture, teachings and ethical principles that speak to humanity's relationship with the natural world and our responsibility to care for creation.

This interfaith side event will bring together Islamic and Jewish perspectives on ecology, exploring Islamic and Jewish scriptures and traditions teach about humanity's relationship with nature, biodiversity and the living world. Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg and Kamran Shezad will reflect on concepts of stewardship, responsibility, balance, moderation and care for creation, exploring how ancient wisdom can inspire contemporary action for biodiversity.

The discussion will consider how these teachings can move from values into practical action. How faith communities can encourage more sustainable nature friendly way of living? How can places of worship become centres for nature restoration and environmental education? How can religious leaders and communities mobilise their influence to protect biodiversity and restore ecosystems?
