Holomui Ki Mu’a: finding futures through ancient practice
Join Us for a Transformative Conversation on the Future of the Pacific!
In a world facing environmental uncertainty, the Pacific Islands stand at the frontlines of climate change — both as powerful cultural reservoirs and as leaders in global advocacy. Holomui Ki Mu’a: finding futures through ancient practice brings together two influential voices from the heart of the Pacific, each deeply committed to the intersection of culture, identity, and climate justice.
This exclusive event will feature:
John Taukave – An esteemed scholar and artist from Fiji, John’s work passionately reconnects Indigenous oceanic identities with the fight for climate justice. His unique perspective blends the arts with policy, providing a comprehensive look at the role of culture in navigating the challenges of our time. As a researcher for the Micronesian Centre for Sustainable Transport, his work directly influences climate policies at international levels, shaping a sustainable future for the Pacific and beyond.
John Kautoke – A prominent maritime advisor with the Micronesian Centre for Sustainable Transport, John has dedicated his career to advancing climate policies on the global stage. From the International Maritime Organization to the Pacific Islands’ climate delegations, his work bridges legal frameworks with the urgent realities of climate crisis, advocating for the survival and prosperity of those most affected by environmental change.
“Holomui Ki Mu'a is a Tongan philosophical concept about acknowledging the past and ancient practices to sustainably move to the future. Storyliving is my research methodology in my studies about living stories through the platforms of performance, ceremony and cultural practice in order to reaffirm our presence at the International Maritime Organization or the IMO.”
