Building a New Social Web: Protocols, People and the Promise of a Democratized AI-Data Economy

​Join the Social Web Foundation and Project Liberty Institute, in partnership with Free Our Feeds and the Observer Research Foundation (TBC), for a focused convening on AI and the social web—the emerging ecosystem of social platforms built on open, interoperable protocols (including ActivityPub, AT Protocol, and DSNP).

​As AI capabilities accelerate, choices about data governance, identity, moderation, and recommendation systems will determine whether next-generation social infrastructure expands participation and agency—or reproduces platform lock-in and concentrated power.

​This session will convene a curated mix of AI researchers, policymakers, standards/protocol implementers, funders, and civil society to identify practical pathways for building rights-respecting, accountable AI in open social systems. Outcomes will include a short post-event brief capturing key insights and next steps for collaboration.
