Java September Meetup

26 October 2026 | Venue: TBD

Join Gujarat JUG for our Java September Meetup, featuring two practical sessions covering Java performance, libraries, and job scheduling.

Whether you're a student, junior developer, QA engineer, or experienced Java developer, come learn, ask questions, and connect with fellow Java enthusiasts.

Session 1: Jugaad vs. JFR: What Your Java Libraries Are Really Costing You

Speaker: Ashish Vaghela
Software Crafter, Nelkinda Software Craft

Jackson, Hibernate, and Lombok let us write less code and ship faster. One annotation, one line, one import — and the problem disappears.

It's the ultimate jugaad.

But that convenience isn't free.

This session uses live, dependency-free Java benchmarks measured with Java Flight Recorder (JFR) to explore what these commonly used libraries actually cost.

We'll look at:

  • Jackson — reflection and serialization overhead

  • Hibernate — the N+1 query problem

  • Lombok — hidden tooling and maintenance trade-offs

  • JFR & async-profiler — seeing what is really happening under the hood

You'll leave with runnable demo code, practical profiling commands, and a 5-question checklist for evaluating dependencies before they become production problems.

Session 2: JobRunr - Easy Distributed Job Scheduling

Speaker: Ronald Dehuysser
Founder, JobRunr BV

Scheduling jobs is a common requirement in modern applications — from recurring background tasks and data processing to reports and automated workflows.

In this session, we'll explore JobRunner, a tool designed for scheduling jobs, and look at how it can help simplify scheduled task execution in Java applications.

More details coming soon.
