Non-Dilutive First: m4, EXIST & the Money You Keep

​You need preclinical data to raise. You need money to generate the data. Most academic teams break that loop by giving away equity — earlier, and more of it, than they had to.

​Bavaria funds the alternative well. The m4 Award opens its 2026/27 call this autumn: up to €500,000 per team, up to two years, and founding a company is not a prerequisite. EXIST-Forschungstransfer collects its next batch on 30 November — up to four salaried positions plus €250,000 in material costs, and the application process was simplified at the end of last year.
