PART 3: Hobobiker Rides Again: Plan It, Test It, Migrate It — The Long Haul: Planning and Running a Drupal 6 to Drupal 11 Migration

​This is the hard one. A migration from Drupal 6 to Drupal 11 skips many major versions and runs into most of the snags that come with them. Instead of turning Claude loose, we'll prepare it the way you'd onboard a new team member. First, it explores the D6 source database and files. Next, it learns what the D11 destination offers. Then it writes a migration plan before touching any code. Randy will follow that plan live, with plenty of input from the peanut gallery, and we'll stop at sensible checkpoints and pick up again in later sessions if needed. The finish line is the same test suite from Road Test, now running against a fully working Drupal 11 site.

After Jamie Abrahams showed us a static-site-to-Drupal CMS migration with evals, DDEV lead maintainer Randy Fay tried the approach on his own very old Drupal 6 site, hobobiker.com. The results made one thing clear: Claude does its best work with a guided plan, a clear view of the source and destination, and success criteria it must prove it has met. In this three-part live series, Randy and the AI Learners Club take hobobiker.com on two different journeys. One ends in static HTML and the other in Drupal 11, and both are checked against the same set of tests. These are working sessions, so bring your questions, suggestions, and opinions.
