Who Gets a Say in AI? Taking AI Safety Public
โAbout Event
โ๐ฃ Who gets a seat at the table when AI reshapes everything?
โAI safety has a reach problem, and most of us in it know the shape of it. The field talks largely to itself. Public concern is high while public literacy stays low. And the people whose jobs, schools, congregations, and communities are most exposed to what's coming are almost never in the room when it's discussed.
โCome meet a team working on exactly that, spend the day with us at FAR.Labs, and find out where you can help.
โ๐๏ธ The day, at a glance
โFrom 9 AM: your pass gets you in the front door. Come early for bagels and work out of FAR.Labs for the day, in a building full of people working on AI safety.
โ10 to 11 AM: Jamie Joyce presents a draft AI bill at the FAR.AI Seminar, with open discussion afterward. It pairs nicely with the afternoon, so do come for both if you can.
โ12 PM: lunch is served, and you're all very welcome to join us for it.
โ1 to 2 PM: the main session with AISAP.
โAfterward: you're welcome to stay, keep working, and keep meeting people.
โCome for the whole thing or just the part you want. Both are completely fine.
โ๐ค The main session
โThe AI Safety Awareness Project (AISAP) is a 501(c)(3) that equips the traditional pillars of American society to take an active role in shaping AI. They run free workshops and education programs for law enforcement agencies, libraries, churches, universities, and the general public, from no technical background through to working researchers. Their premise: if AI is going to affect society, society should have a voice.
โThey're joining us at FAR.Labs to share what they've built, where they're headed next, and what they need from this community. Expect a clear picture of what actually lands with a general audience, and a concrete ask at the end.
โYou'll hear from:
โChanglin Li
โNoah Wilson
โAndres Ramirez
โSpyder McHenry
โLauren Daugherty
โMadeline McBride
โwith time for questions and for hearing where AISAP could use your input!
๐ Getting in
โThe day before, we'll send you a door pass that's valid all day. Buzz yourself in at the front door from 9 AM and head up. Questions? Email hale@far.ai.
โFAR.Labs is a co-working hub in downtown Berkeley dedicated to supporting the AI safety research community, operated by FAR.AI, an AI safety research non-profit.
