Save the date, Paris! The Analog Club is honored to host the iconic Magnum photographer Martin Parr for the launch of the French version of his first-ever autobiography, Complètement paresseux et étourdi, published by Éditions Michel Lafon.
Join us on Friday, October 31, 2025, for a neighborhood-wide celebration in Ménilmontant to mark this special occasion and our first anniversary. We've curated an evening of photography, film, and music across three neighboring venues (Plural and Les 3 Marmites). Also, it’s Halloween, so show up in your best costume! The more absurd your outfit, the more Martin Parr approves. It’s scientifically proven.
1 — Book Signing with Martin Parr
When (new time): 5:30 PM - 9 PM (we recently added an extra 1.5 hour, the signature was previously announced as 6 - 8 PM)
Where: The Analog Club, 6 rue Julien Lacroix, 75020 Paris
⚠️ Important note: Registering does not guarantee entry or a book signing, and we recommend arriving early. Martin Parr will be present for 3.5 hours, and access will be on a first-come, first-served basis. To be considerate of everyone waiting, we kindly ask that you make space for the next person once your signing is complete. This will help keep things moving smoothly and ensure as many people as possible get to have their book signed. Thank you for your understanding :)
Utterly Lazy and Inattentive, a title cheekily borrowed from one of his school reports, tells the story of a distracted schoolboy who changed the way we see the world. It’s a journey through a changing era, from steam trains to junk food, and a revolution in photography, from black and white to color, film to digital. Featuring over 150 photographs alongside his own memories, the book invites us to see Parr, the world, and ourselves through a wonderfully different lens.
2 — Documentary Screening: I Am Martin Parr
When: 6 PM - 7:50 PM (two 50-min screenings)
Where: Les 3 Marmites, 8 rue Julien Lacroix, 75020 Paris
Just next door, join us for a free screening of Lee Shulman's intimate documentary, I am Martin Parr. This 50-minute film offers a deep dive into the photographer's creative process and his tender yet sharp perspective on our world. Capacity is limited to 60 people. Seating is first-come, first-served.
3 — Bites, Drinks & Vinyl Set
When: 6 PM - 11:30 PM
Where: Plural, 17 rue Julien Lacroix, 75020 Paris
Across the street, Plural Café will be getting a UK makeover. Enjoy British-inspired bites and drinks while Flabaire spins a vinyl set of English rock and alternative gems.
4 — Photo Contest & Pop-up Exhibition
When: Starts at 6 PM
Where: The Analog Club (until 8 PM) & Plural (until 11:30 PM)
To celebrate the launch, we're also hosting a photo contest!
The theme: Accidentally Martin Parr. We’re looking for pictures that capture humour, irony, and the little absurdities of life. No staging, no tricks, just those unexpected scenes that celebrate the comedy of everyday moments.
The prizes:
1st Prize: a signed copy of the book + a Martin Parr scarf
2nd Prize: a signed copy of the book + a camera strap
3rd Prize: a signed copy of the book
The judge: your entries will be personally reviewed and selected by Martin Parr.
The winners will be announced on 31 OCT on @the.analog.club and @martinparrstudio's accounts and a selection of the best entries will be featured in a pop-up exhibition on the walls of The Analog Club and Plural for the evening.
Deadline: Sunday, 19 OCT, 23:59 Paris Time (CET)
Eligibility: pictures must be shot on film and
you can submit up to three photos.
