Theme: The Intersection of Innovation, Sustainability, and Equity for Energy Access
Background
The 2025 International Energy Agency (IEA) Report and the Energy Transitions Commission (ETC) highlight that achieving a sustainable and secure global energy future will depend on a diversified energy mix. For developing countries, especially in Africa and the Global South, energy access remains the bedrock for delivering on SDG7 and catalysing progress across the wider SDGs.
Current evidence underscores that:
A mix of off-grid systems, clean cooking technologies, grids, and climate technologies will be required to close energy access gaps.
Without accelerating investment, innovation, and enabling policies, nearly 600 million people may remain without electricity and over 900 million without clean cooking by 2030.
Equity, gender inclusion, and community-level leadership are essential for a just energy transition.
