Saturday, October 3, 2026
10:30 AM–12:00 PM
ISLAA, 142 Franklin Street, New York
Not Assimilated by Contemplation: A Symposium on the Argentine Avant-Garde of the 1960s brings together artists, scholars, and curators to examine the experimental practices, institutions, and international networks that shaped this transformative period. Organized by Dia Art Foundation and ISLAA, the symposium considers the connections between Buenos Aires and New York and revisits the enduring legacies of the Instituto Torcuato Di Tella, Rubén Santantonín, Marta Minujín, Liliana Porter, Luis Camnitzer, and the New York Graphic Workshop.
Join us for a close encounter with materials from the Rubén Santantonín Archive, preserved at ISLAA. Led by Dr. Mariano López Seoane, Director of the Graduate Program and ISLAA Fellow in Latin American Art at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, the session will examine photographs, manuscripts, and other documents illuminating Santantonín’s ideas and working process. Together with Marta Minujín, Santantonín created the landmark immersive environment La Menesunda.
The archival presentation will be followed by a guided tour of The New York Graphic Workshop: Towards Total Art, led by ISLAA’s curatorial team.
