The Underdogs: Dive and Ski Tourism As a Powerful Climate Ally
This panel event will explore how dive and ski communities—often overlooked in climate conversations—can play a powerful role in protecting the ecosystems they depend on. From reefs to snowfields, the event will spotlight how nature-based tourism in Australia can shift narratives, mobilise audiences and drive meaningful climate action, and highlight how we build a climate resilient future across the industry.
We have a fantastic panel to help us unpack it all including:
Matt Turnbull - Originally from England and the corporate life, in 2018 Matt decided to embark on an adventure into the deep blue. This adventure led him to become a freediving instructor trainer, freediving coach and Top 10 ranked UK Athlete. He now shares his passion for freediving with others through OceanSense. Matt has spent many years diving around the country and is the NSW representative for renowned dive brand Cressi.
Huw Kingston - Huw Kingston is a multi-award winning adventurer, writer and environmentalist and POW Ambassador. He has loved the Australian alpine for nearly 40 years and has witnessed the changes wrought upon our mountains, and those elsewhere, by a warming climate. Huw has a long background in the tourism industry. For 20 years he ran some of Australia's largest adventure events and has run ski and mountain biking tours in Australia and internationally for over 30 years.
Felicity Stevens - Felicity Stevens is a sustainable tourism advocate, speaker, and multi-award-winning Airbnb host based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Through her platform Sustainable Hosting, Felicity helps tourism operators understand the business value of sustainable practices and teaches practical ways to run lower-emissions properties that attract the growing number of travellers seeking more responsible travel experiences.
The panel event will run from 3-4pm, followed by an opportunity for us to connect over our shared love of the oceans and mountains, with catering provided.
We look forward to seeing you there!
