Legacy in Motion: An Inherited Light Conversation
From the birthplace of Notting Hill Carnival, a conversation connecting generations of Caribbean-British trailblazers shaping culture, community and belonging.
Sixty years ago, Claudia Jones helped lay the foundations for a cultural movement that continues to unite communities today. Held in the very room where the foundations of Notting Hill Carnival were first laid, this evening connects that historic legacy with the Caribbean change-makers building its next chapter now.
The evening opens with an exclusive screening of the Inherited Light short film — the world's first ongoing archive documenting Caribbean Millennial and Gen Z diaspora experience, setting the tone for the conversation to follow.
This is Caribbean legacy in motion — three panellists, three fields, one continuing story. From film and industry change, to policy and public office, to identity carried through sound and composition, our panellists are shaping what Caribbean culture looks like next, each navigating institutions and industries that are still catching up to who they are.
The conversation moves through what it costs to be unmistakably yourself in rooms that reward the opposite, what's inherited from the generation before versus what still needs building, and the moments that call for a stand to be taken, whether or not it's the popular one.
Expect honesty, expect joy alongside the struggle, and expect a room full of people asking what their own role is in making sure this legacy doesn't stop with the people on stage.
Tickets are pay-as-you-can, with all proceeds going to a Black-owned charity.
In partnership with Love Camden, as part of Black History Season 2026.
