Monte Abantos via GR-10 (difficult, free, women only)

​🌲⛪ Monte Abantos via GR-10 · San Lorenzo de El Escorial

​A classic circular hike through the pine forests of the Sierra de Guadarrama, climbing to the summit of Monte Abantos at 1,753m. The trail follows the iconic GR-10 path through dense woodland before opening up to sweeping panoramic views of the Royal Monastery of El Escorial, the sierra and the Castilian plateau beyond. One of the most rewarding hikes accessible directly by public transport from Madrid. 🏔️

​Distance: 10.3 km · Elevation: ~800 m · Time: 4.5 to 5.5 h ·

​Difficulty: Hard. The trail involves a steady, steep incline, please don't overrate your fitness level. We will have more beginner-friendly hikes in the future. 🥾

​Getting there: Bus 664 from Intercambiador de Moncloa → San Lorenzo de El Escorial (direct, ~1h).

​Logistics: Group size: Capped at 25, please sign up.

​Meeting option 1: 9:50 AM at Intercambiador de Moncloa (Level -1, Dársena/Gate 11). Bus departs at 10:15 AM sharp, Line 664.

​Meeting option 2: At the San Lorenzo de El Escorial bus station once the 10:15 AM bus arrives.

​Return: Aiming to be back at Moncloa by ~6:30 PM.

​What to bring: Proper hiking boots are essential. It gets very cold at the summ, so wear lots of layers! Bring a windbreaker or rain jacket and check the weather the day before. Packed picnic lunch, snacks and at least 2L of water. 🧺

​Cost: Free. You only pay for your public transport. Pay the driver on the bus, bring coins/cash as a backup in case the card reader fails! 🪙
