​지난 주, 소개를 통해 우연히 Jeewon Kim Serrato님을 만나 이야기를 나눌 기회가 있었습니다. 미국 1세대 교민으로서 UC 버클리에서 법학을 전공하신 후, 워싱턴 D.C.의 미국 로펌에서 파트너로 근무하셨습니다. 이후 미국 국토안보부에서 8년 간 Data Privacy 부문을 이끄시다가, 다시 샌프란시스코로 돌아와 미국 중산층을 위한 AI 네이티브 금융 서비스 스타트업을 직접 창업하여 운영 중이십니다.

​Last week, through a mutual introduction, I got the chance to sit down with Jeewon Kim Serrato. A first-generation Korean American, she studied law at UC Berkeley, went on to become a partner at a law firm in Washington, D.C., and then spent eight years heading the Data Privacy division at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. These days, she's back in San Francisco, running an AI-native financial services startup she founded to serve America's middle class.

​Jeewon님은 지금 샌프란시스코에서는 AGI를 넘어, AI로 0에서 1000을 만들어낼 수 있는 기회들이 빠르게 열리고 있으며, 더 이상 9-to-5 직장이나 틀에 박힌 교육에 얽매이지 않아도 되는 시대가 펼쳐지고 있다고 말씀하셨습니다.

​When we talked, Jeewon painted a vivid picture of what's happening in San Francisco right now: opportunities to go from 0 to 1,000 powered by AI and beyond AGI are opening up faster than most people realize. She described a world where the 9-to-5 grind and conventional education paths are becoming genuinely optional.

​한편, 함께 식사를 하던 한국 분께서는 한국인의 시각에서 이런 변화가 유토피아보다 오히려 디스토피아처럼 느껴질 수 있다고 하셨습니다. 무한한 자유가 오히려 불안함과 공허함으로 다가올 수 있다는 걸요.

​That said, a Korean guest at the table offered a counterpoint: for many Koreans, that kind of radical freedom can feel less like a utopia and more like a dystopia. When everything is possible, the result can just as easily be anxiety and a sense of emptiness.

​그럼에도 이러한 변화가 이미 우리 앞에 다가온 지금, Jeewon님은 The K-University라는 글로벌 마스터마인드 커뮤니티를 설립하셨습니다. 한국뿐만 아니라 미국 등 각국의 스타트업이 글로벌 무대로 나아갈 수 있도록 네트워크를 잇고, 다양한 성공을 함께 나누는 자리입니다. Bloom 커뮤니티에도 분명 도움이 될 것이라는 생각에 이번 협업을 함께 하게 되었습니다.

​Even so, with these changes already here, Jeewon has gone ahead and built something in response. The K-University is a global mastermind community where founders, advisors and investors from Korea, the U.S., and elsewhere can connect, find their footing on the world stage, and share knowledge and experience to build together. We're co-hosting this event because we genuinely believe it'll be valuable for the Bloom community.
