Surface Creek Cornicoupia
This summer, the Surface Creek community is invited to create something beautiful together, one small piece of art at a time.
Beginning each Wednesday at the Cedaredge Farmers Market, The Lab and The B-Sisters Project will host a free community art activity where people of all ages can paint rocks, decorate small canvases, and create other simple works of art. Select pieces will become part of the Surface Creek Cornucopia, a growing collection celebrating the creativity, generosity, and spirit of our community.
The completed art instillation will be unveiled during the Surface Creek Cornucopia Community Dinner on Wednesday, September 9, as part of Colorado's 150th anniversary celebration and the statewide Longest Table initiative. The event will bring neighbors together around one long table for an evening of food, conversation, and community.
"This event is about cultivating community connection. Perfection is not necessary and every ability is welcome," said Amy Thieme of The Lab. "Every piece is about creating something together. Every painted rock, every tiny canvas, every brushstroke represents someone who chose to participate in building a stronger, more connected community."
The September 9 event will feature complimentary hamburgers and hot dogs, with guests invited to bring a favorite side dish or dessert to share. The evening will also include an ice cream smorgasbord, opportunities to connect with neighbors, and information about the newly forming Surface Creek Connection Council, a community-led effort to strengthen social connection throughout the valley.
The free art activities will take place every Wednesday during the Cedaredge Farmers Market leading up to the event. No artistic experience is necessary, and all supplies will be provided.
Businesses, organizations, and individuals are also invited to sponsor the community meal and help make this celebration possible.
The Surface Creek Cornucopia is presented by The Lab and The B-Sisters Project, with support from local sponsors and volunteers who believe that stronger communities are built one conversation, one shared meal, and one act of creativity at a time.
