How to Raise Money For My Startup

Most founders are expected to raise money before anyone has ever properly explained how fundraising actually works.

You hear things like “build momentum,” “talk to angels,” “get VC interest,” or “tighten your deck,” but for a lot of early-stage founders, it still feels vague, intimidating, and full of unwritten rules. That is exactly why we are running this workshop.

How to Raise Money For My Startup is a small-group, hands-on workshop for 10 to 12 founders who want practical support preparing for a raise. Rather than another high-level panel or generic talk, this session is designed to give founders real clarity on how investors think, how to approach the process strategically, and how to put together a raise in a way that actually makes sense.

The workshop will be led by Dr Sam Donegan and Sonia Kaurah.

Dr Sam Donegan is the President at MLAI, a medical doctor, and a serial entrepreneur who has raised $300k+ from Australian investors, including VCs and angels.
Sonia Kaurah was an investor in a previous life, and is now the founder of TalaThrive and has raised $300k+ from Australian and international angel investors. She will direct and explain raising capital from a founder AND investor prospective.

Across the session, founders will work closely with Sam and Sonia in a highly interactive format, including 1:1 support on:

  • fundraising strategy

  • pitch decks

  • investor lists

  • how to structure the raise as a whole

  • tech to automate and speed the process up

This workshop is being run because too many founders go into fundraising underprepared, not because they are not capable, but because no one has shown them how the game works from the investor side. We want founders to leave feeling more confident, more informed, and far better equipped to raise with intention.

If you are thinking about raising now or in the near future, this is a chance to get honest advice, direct feedback, and practical guidance in a small room with people who have done it themselves.

Format: Small group workshop
Capacity: 10 to 12 founders
Time: Saturday morning, from 10:30am

Lunch provided!
