“Đi Tù”- nghe qua có thể khiến nhiều người sợ hãi, thậm chí rùng mình vì những liên tưởng quen thuộc. Nhưng ở đây, “đi tù” lại là một trải nghiệm hoàn toàn khác: ghé thăm một ngôi nhà và cũng là một tác phẩm nghệ thuật.
Nằm giữa lòng Vũng Tàu, “Nhà Tù Văn Ngọc” là cái tên khiến không ít người e dè, nhưng đồng thời cũng khơi gợi sự tò mò. Đây không phải là một nhà tù theo nghĩa thông thường, mà là một tác phẩm sắp đặt do chính nghệ sĩ Văn Ngọc đặt tên cho không gian sống của mình.
Ngay từ cách đặt tên, người nghệ sĩ đã cho thấy một tinh thần sáng tạo đầy đột phá. Với quan điểm rõ ràng: “Art No Fear”, hay xa hơn, là một lựa chọn dứt khoát: nghệ thuật là không giải thích; họa sĩ Văn Ngọc đã cho thấy một thái độ làm nghệ thuật không chiều theo những khuôn mẫu quen thuộc.
Công trình được thành hình từ từ qua nhiều năm, qua lao động, thử nghiệm, và những trăn trở kéo dài, tác giả đã biến chính ngôi nhà của gia đình mình thành một tác phẩm sắp đặt sống. Bước vào bên trong, ranh giới bắt đầu mờ đi. Đây là một công trình xây dựng? Hay là một tác phẩm đang hình thành? Là nơi để ở? Hay là một thực thể nghệ thuật? Không có câu trả lời rõ ràng. Chính sự nhập nhòa đó tạo nên bản chất của không gian. Đời sống và nghệ thuật không còn tách biệt. Mọi thứ tiếp diễn, bồi đắp theo thời gian, theo sự rung cảm của tác giả với đời sống.
Ít ai biết, người nghệ sĩ ấy đã đi nhiều nơi, thực hiện nhiều triển lãm trong và ngoài nước. Nhưng ngay tại Vũng Tàu, tác phẩm này vẫn tồn tại một cách lặng lẽ, gần như đứng ngoài mọi sự chú ý.
“Nhà Tù Văn Ngọc” trở thành một công trình độc đáo không chỉ bởi cách nó được sáng tác, đề tài khác biệt hay một cái tên mang đậm cá tính tác giả, mà bởi chính sự tồn tại độc lập của nó như một tác phẩm, nơi mỗi người bước vào đều có thể mang theo và tự hình thành cho mình những chiêm nghiệm riêng.

“Going to Prison” — the phrase may sound frightening to many people, even unsettling because of the familiar associations it evokes. But here, “going to prison” is an entirely different experience: a visit to a house that is also a work of art.
Located in the heart of Vũng Tàu, “Văn Ngọc Prison House” is a name that makes some people hesitant, yet at the same time sparks curiosity. It is not a prison in the usual sense, but rather an installation artwork— the name that artist Văn Ngọc gave to his own living space.
From the very act of naming, the artist reveals a bold creative spirit. With a clear stance — “Art No Fear”, and perhaps even more decisively, the belief that art does not require explanation — artist Văn Ngọc demonstrates an artistic attitude that refuses to follow familiar conventions.
The structure has taken shape gradually over many years. Through labor, experimentation, and long periods of reflection, the artist has transformed his family home into a living installation. Once you step inside, boundaries begin to blur. Is this a building? Or an artwork still in the process of becoming? Is it a place to live? Or an artistic entity? There is no definitive answer. It is precisely this ambiguity that defines the space. Life and art are no longer separated; everything continues to evolve and accumulate over time, shaped by the artist’s sensitivity to life itself.
Few people know that this artist has traveled widely and presented numerous exhibitions both in Vietnam and abroad. Yet here in Vũng Tàu, this work still exists quietly, almost outside the spotlight.
“Văn Ngọc Prison House” becomes a unique creation not only because of the way it was made, its unconventional theme, or its distinctly personal name, but also because of its independent existence as a work of art — a place where each visitor can bring their own reflections and form their own interpretations.
This activity is part of the Vũng Tàu Learning Festival – Vũng Tàu, a Learning City, and is also an initiative by Go Live Love in collaboration with the family of artist Văn Ngọc. The event aims to create an opportunity for those interested in art to come closer to the “artwork” and to have conversations with the people who are living within that space.
