​Canada is the natural place for European life sciences companies to land in North America. Under CETA, Canada and the EU eliminated tariffs on more than 98% of tariff lines, including medical devices. The agreement also added intellectual property protections that make Canada more attractive for EU life sciences investment. Toronto is the centre of it. The city's life sciences sector employed 30,490 people in 2023, 14% of Canada's life sciences workforce, and contributed a record $3.6 billion to GDP. The US market is right next door.
