About Event

Note: this is an in-person event only. Closing date for registrations is 5pm, 6 August (UK time).

Back to the Fortran Future 4 (BTTFF4) will build on three previous satellite events, two at RSECon and one at SSI CW26. We bring together members of the national and international Fortran community – developers, software engineers, computational scientists and other stakeholders – to work together to 1) better understand the landscape of the community 2) share good practice and 3) plan activities to support the community. BTTFF4 will also formally launch FortranFuture, a three-year Network+ project funded by the EPSRC (UKRI4343), which will strengthen the Fortran national and international community, grow a complementary interdisciplinary research network, develop a roadmap for future Fortran-based science, and identify resources (e.g., partners, funding, tools) to support the implementation of the roadmap.

An indicative agenda is (further information to follow):

  • Session 1: Welcome, community updates, summary results from the international survey, and official launch of the FortranFuture Network+ project, including explanation of prospective flexible funding available to the (UK) community.

  • Session 2: Proposals from the community on projects, activities and other initiatives that the community could start or continue to progress, with open discussion of those proposals.

  • Session 3: ‘Build and develop’ of those proposals, e.g., with a view to accessing flexible funding in the future.

  • Session 4: What next, including feedback on how we might ’shape’ the call(s) for flexible funding.
