The New Climate Wars: The Rising Far Right vs a New Independent Wave
Former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull joins Climate Action Week Sydney for a timely and wide ranging conversation about the forces reshaping Australian politics and what they mean for climate action.
Malcolm Turnbull will be joined by leading political communications expert Ed Coper, Climate 200 co-convenor Kate Hook, and investigative humourist and political commentator Dan Ilic. Together, they will unpack how far right movements aligned with fossil fuel interests are working to dismantle climate policy across the globe. They will also explore the trends we are seeing in Australia, as One Nation’s rise in the polls threatens to fuel a race to the bottom on climate ambition.
At the same time, voters are turning away from the major parties in record numbers, transforming the electoral landscape. Will this opening be filled by those seeking to exploit grievance politics, or by a growing wave of community backed independents committed to serious climate action?
Join us for a compelling discussion about global trends, Australia’s political crossroads, and whether independents can provide a credible, community driven alternative.
