Waking Up Woman: A Live Poetic Memoir

​Please join me for an intimate night of poetry and immersive storytelling as I perform my one-woman show, "Waking Up Woman," in my hometown.

​This poetic memoir explores my life as Black, Muslim filmmaker, writer, and lover in all of my complexity. The poems focus on love, relationships, the body/ health, pain, grief, home, and family. Together, the they tell a vivid, emotional narrative of self-exploration and growth, which holds joy, light, truth, and catharsis for all who listen and experience it.

​My poetry has served as the foundation of my life, and of my filmmaking. So I am so excited to share this special night with you. It would mean so much to me for you to be there.

​This is a pay-what you can event. I am self-funding this event during a period of unemployment. Any donations are appreciated at the door. Light refreshments and small snacks will be served. There will be a q&a after the show, moderated by the amazing poet/writer Alie Jones.
