โSpeaker: Tasmyn Dube (Software engineer @ Tillo)
โTasmyn is a Laravel-focused software engineer with experience building web products and backend systems. She has worked on a wide range of projects, from application features and integrations to the more operational side of software engineering, where reliability, maintainability, and clear system design matter just as much as shipping quickly.
She tends to find joy where others might find frustration: solving messy backend problems, untangling complex workflows, and working out how systems behave beyond the happy path.
Presentation: Building reliable payment flows in Laravel
โThe talk will look at why payment systems are often more complex than they appear, especially when dealing with asynchronous confirmations, retries, provider quirks, inconsistent references, and reconciliation gaps. Tasmyn will cover some of the common mistakes that make payment flows fragile, as well as practical Laravel patterns that help make them more reliable, including DTOs, adapters, queued processing, internal state modelling, audit trails, and reconciliation jobs.
Tasmyn will also touch on what working with payment systems in African contexts can teach us about building software that is resilient, observable, and trustworthy in the real world.
