About Event

Fifty years after punk declared itself against everything and everyone, Goethe-Institut San Francisco presents NO PUNK. NO FUTURE., an exhibition exploring the connections between the punk scenes of Kiel, Germany, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Join us for the opening night and a conversation with Andy A. Schwarz and Tina Sanudakura of the seminal Kiel post-punk band NO MORE, alongside San Francisco writer and punk historian Jack Boulware, author of Gimme Something Better: The Profound, Progressive, and Occasionally Pointless History of Bay Area Punk from Dead Kennedys to Green Day.

The exhibition brings together photographs by the late Helmut Kunde, archival materials, records, posters, tour diaries, and artwork from both sides of the Atlantic. Rather than telling a complete history of punk, it traces the people, ideas, and creative networks that connected punk communities across continents while maintaining their distinct identities.

Part of the international program Alle gegen Alles. Punk@50, the exhibition considers punk not as a closed chapter in music history, but as an enduring cultural force that continues to shape art, music, publishing, activism, and independent creative practice.

Drinks and light refreshments will be served.

Special thanks to our sponsor, Sunset Paulaner.
