Onboarding to Omeka S: Establishing community archiving workflows with open-source digital archive display and management software
This is part two of a two-part workshop series looking at how Omeka S, an open-source, self-hostable digital archive display and management tool, can be used by communities to manage, maintain, and contribute to their own digital archive.
This workshop builds on the first workshop, with a more hand-on approach focused on onboarding participants as contributors to a deployed instance of Omeka S, of which the features were in-part defined by participants of the first workshop.
The workshop will:
onboard participants as contributors to a deployed instance of Omeka S
explore metadata editing workflows
explore new archival contribution workflows
edit and review metadata
contribute and review an archival contribution
demo a custom built module for managing Internet Archive collections by writing metadata edits and archival contributions to the Internet Archive from Omeka S using Internet Archive APIs
explore the creation of community defined item collections and galleries
Participants will:
engage with a direct instance of Omeka S
contribute to the shaping of community-based digital archiving workflows
Note: Participation in the first workshop is recommended, though not necessary for participation in this workshop. Workshop one covers more of the technical background for Omeka S and digital archiving in general, while this workshop is more focused on practical engagement with digital archiving.
This workshop is facilitated by c-host, a digital archivist, artist, and researcher. Learn more about their work here: https://c-host.site
