MEDSEAPLAN Workshop: Future Scenarios for Mediterranean Marine Spatial Planning

Date & time

Monday 2 November 2026, 09:45 – 18:00 (CET, Europe/Madrid)

Location: Barcelona. Will give details soon.

Description

Join us in Barcelona to imagine the future of the Mediterranean Sea.

As part of the MEDSEAPLAN – Data and Scenarios for a Sustainable Mediterranean Blue Economy project, we are bringing together people from across the Mediterranean's marine and coastal community for a one-day participatory workshop on the future of Marine Spatial Planning (MSP).

Together, we will explore the driving forces that could shape the Mediterranean's marine space over the coming decades, looking as far ahead as 2075, and begin developing a set of plausible future scenarios to inform planning and decision-making.

The day builds on stakeholder interviews conducted earlier in the project. It will be facilitated by Dr Gokhan Gokmen, Lecturer at the Department of Maritime Business Administration, Bursa Technical University (Turkey).

Why take part?

  • See the bigger picture. Exchange with other sectors, challenge assumptions and understand the forces shaping the Mediterranean.

  • Stress-test your own plans. Every participant receives the final scenarios to test their organisation's strategies, investments or policies against.

  • Build lasting connections. Meet peers across organisations and countries, and develop a shared language for talking about the future.

  • Shape the results. The scenarios are built from what participants say on the day, not presented ready-made, and they feed directly into MEDSEAPLAN's outputs and recommendations.

No advance preparation is needed. The day is built around your knowledge and experience. A workbook will be provided on the day.
