MSS Facility Tour: After the Bin - From Curbside to Rebirth
Come join us and tour our facility to learn the environmental, economic, and social benefits of Reducing, Reusing, Recycling, and composting our green waste and Rotting food.
Tour Guidelines and Safety
*Signed Waiver required before start of tour.
*All participants must have closed-toe shoes to go on the tour. There is often broken glass in our facility and it is unsafe to wear sandals or other open-toed shoes.
The Tour
These are the different sites that will be visited while on the tour. It is an enriching experience for all participants. Please see below for additional information specific to content of the tour.
The MSS Tour
Environmental Classroom: Where participants will learn through discussion and a short presentation about the impact of landfilling our waste and how it directly affects climate change.
Recycling Center: Participants see firsthand what happens to our dual stream recyclable materials once collected They see how recyclables are further sorted and processed for shipping to a remanufacturing plant to be made into new products.
Transfer Station: At this site, residential garbage collection trucks are weighed before dumping their load of garbage into a huge pit, where it’s bulldozed, compacted, and loaded into large cargo trucks to transport to Redwood Landfill.
Flying Can Ranch: Experience how our pigs, peacocks, and chickens play an important role in waste diversion.
