3DE Assembly: Rediscovering The Forgotten Third
3DE Assembly
Join us for this Assembly as we take you on a journey through:
- What we actually mean by the 'third dimension' and what we mean when we say that a whole dimension of our human identity/potential has been systemically unvalued.
- The origins of 3DE in our own lived experience, and the unique insights and motivation that lived experience has given us.
- The core strategy behind a paradigm shift from a two dimensional education system to a three dimensional one. We will break this down using the tried and tested strategic principle of leverage, mapping out the key leverage points which take this shift from idealistic to achievable. We know that without leverage we will never see actual systems change.
- Our vision for where our solutions sit in the bigger picture of systemic change, and the creative potential of lunchtimes as a space for this dimension of learning.
- The opportunity to pilot these ideas in pioneering schools in Ipswich (the UK's first town of youth social action) as part of the extraordinary effort for Ipswich to become a model for other communities across the UK.
- The specific areas we need support and collaboration in, so that you are able to consider how best you may be able to be part of guiding this forward (if you find yourself interested to do so)
We have invited you to be part of this Assembly because we know that we need to listen to and learn from a diverse range of perspectives as we move into this next chapter, and we know that you have important insights to offer.
If you haven't already, please read our story before the Assembly. We wrote this so that people would know where we came from, as we use this space to explore where we are going: thirddimensioned.wordpress.com
We ask that you bring both your logic and your imagination, and we look forward to welcoming you on the 30th September!
Our Background
You may wonder how we, as the furthest thing from education experts imaginable, have somehow discovered solutions that are 1) new and 2) worth contributing to the conversation about systemic change in schools. It's a fair question, and one we hope the Assembly will help answer in more detail.
In brief, a key factor in us getting this far has been pattern recognition. We have discovered that, in our own ways, both of our brains are very good at finding meaning in chaos and joining the dots.
This journey all began when we looked at complex problems and saw patterns begin to emerge. Once we started looking at the patterns, we began to see solutions.
This way of seeing the world has allowed us to begin understanding the existing trajectories our systems are on, and what it will take to diverge into new ones.
However, we certainly do not claim to have all the answers. We've been so encouraged by the strong positive response to our work so far, and look forward to opening the floor for all of your contributions, to help us strengthen and improve our strategy.
Join us to explore not only what a paradigm shift in education could look like, but also what it will take to make it happen.
