About Event

This is organised by Projector Community ambassadors (by Projector Institute) and RichardsDee studio.

Who This Is For
For designers, it is about getting closer to code. You will learn how to work directly in it, shape ideas more precisely, and take greater control over what gets shipped. For engineers, it is a chance to step into a more design-led mindset. You will gain insight into how taste, visual judgement, and refinement influence the quality of an experience.

You should be comfortable with the basics such as running a project and editing code, but you do not need to be an expert. The goal is to build a shared way of working where ideas can move fluidly between design and implementation.

What to Expect
We’ll start with a short talk and walkthrough of a real project, showing how AI tools can be used to move from idea to working system quickly.

From there, we’ll move into a hands-on session using a pre-configured starter project (React, Vite, Tailwind, Base UI). You’ll use Cursor to iterate on your own version of an interactive visual system, building and refining it in real time.

We’ll cover:
• A practical workflow for AI-assisted development
• How to structure and evolve a project using a strong base setup
• Principles behind the tools used (including Base UI and system thinking)
• How to move quickly from idea → output → refinement

By the end of the session, you’ll have something working, and we’ll take time to share and reflect on what was built.

Please Come Prepared With
• A laptop
• Cursor installed and ready to use
• A GitHub account (https://github.com/signup)
• Node.js installed (https://nodejs.org)
• Signed into your accounts in advance

Optional:
• Access to additional AI models (e.g. Claude, Codex) via Cursor plugins
• Get the starter project running in advance: [https://github.com/itstimefortea/prjctr-workshop]

About the Speaker
Patrick Cusack is a Staff Product Designer at Inscribe, working across product and brand.

Alongside his product work, he explores creative coding through projects like ModFont and ModVisuals, using AI workflows to build interactive systems quickly while maintaining a strong focus on design quality and visual expression.

Outcome
You’ll leave with:
• A working interactive prototype built during the session
• A clearer workflow for using AI tools in a practical, design-led way
• A stronger understanding of how to move from idea to implementation quickly
• Confidence in building and iterating directly in code

Session Flow (Approximate)
• 5 mins — Meet & greet
• 20 mins — Talk: Toolmaking - Bringing Ideas to Life
• 10 mins — Setup (starter project + environment)
• 45 mins — Project build (Open exploration and iteration)
• 10 mins — Break
• 30 mins — Show & tell
• 5 mins — Closing thoughts
