Advanced Manufacturing Hub - Strategy Retreat
Advanced Manufacturing research is where science meets the shop floor – the process of transforming bold ideas and raw materials into the products, technologies, and industries of tomorrow. By pushing the boundaries of automation, lifecycle design, and supply chain innovation, Advanced Manufacturing research empowers nations to build more intelligently, more rapidly, and more sustainably than ever before. It allows us to make new technologies and products previously not possible to craft, in locations that weren’t previously possible, at production rates that weren’t previously possible. In a world defined by rapid change and fierce global competition, this research doesn't just improve how we make products, it reimagines what's possible. The University of Utah has the momentum to help imagine that future.
To that end, we are excited to announce the launch of the Advanced Manufacturing Hub at the University of Utah! This research hub is a cross-campus initiative designed to:
· Centralize information regarding advanced manufacturing efforts across campus
· Spur new research collaborations across academic units, with industry partners, etc.
· Raise the profile of the University of Utah as a regional leader in advanced manufacturing
· Take steps toward establishing center-level funding, congressional appropriations, and other sources of sustainable extramural funding
· Expand advanced manufacturing technologies, capabilities, and infrastructure on campus
The Advanced Manufacturing Hub is kickstarting its work with a 3-hour, in-person retreat on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026, from 9:00am-12:00pm (Location TBD). The retreat will include 2-minute lighting talk presentations from researchers already engaged in this work on campus, feedback and listening sessions to help shape the overall structure of the initiative, help collect and catalogue resources and capabilities across campus, and more.
All faculty, staff, students, post-docs, and industry/community partners currently operating in this space, looking for potential collaborators, planning a response to an upcoming & related research opportunity, and those with interest in learning more about Advanced Manufacturing research at the University of Utah are encouraged to attend.
