Nepali Diaspora, Development and Leadership in Times of Crisis
Nepal is at a consequential moment. Climate-change induced disasters are claiming lives and creating huge economic shocks. And it is forcing difficult questions about how Nepal develops, builds, and governs in the decades ahead.
The question is not simply how Nepal recovers from the crisis. It is how Nepal can use this moment, with a young population and a globally dispersed diaspora, to build a more resilient and prosperous development model.
What would that require?
How can Nepal turn its demographic dividend into productive jobs and stronger institutions?
What does climate-resilient growth look like for a Himalayan economy increasingly exposed to environmental shocks?
What can the Nepali diaspora contribute through skills, networks, technology, and ideas? What kind of cross-border collaborations can be explored?
Join us at Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs for an evening of conversation on the ideas, strategies, and choices that could shape Nepal's next chapter.
Panelists:
Preeti (Pandey) Adhikary (SOM '21): Founder of Momo VC and The Great Nepali Diaspora
Ajay Shrestha (SOM '26): Engineering Manager, Imagen Technologies
Rahul R. Dhakal: Climate & ESG Risk, Goldman Sachs
Sudhir Raj Shrestha: Chief Satellite Meteorology and Climatology Division, NOAA National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service (NESDIS)
Rahul and Sudhir will join us virtually. Speakers will draw on their work in finance, technology, community and research to offer a grounded picture of where Nepal can grow and what it will take to get there.
