Omar Mnfy - The Future of Education in an AI World: What Companies Are Building, How Universities Are Responding, and What Comes Next
In this talk, Omar will look at how AI is reshaping education from two directions at once: the companies building AI-powered learning tools, and the universities trying to decide how those tools belong in their classrooms. Generative AI entered education faster than almost any technology before it. Students adopted it long before most institutions had a policy, which has left educators, administrators, and product builders working out the rules while things keep changing.
Drawing on his experience as a product manager on Microsoft's Education team, Omar will survey the current edtech landscape. He will cover what major companies and startups are building, which problems they are trying to solve, and where products are gaining traction or falling short with teachers and students. He will then turn to higher education, where responses so far have ranged from outright bans to enthusiastic adoption. He will cover how universities are rethinking academic integrity, assessment, and course design, and the gap that often exists between institutional policy and what happens in classrooms right now.
