Join us at the Chicago Cultural Center for an illuminating conversation between two key creative voices behind the Chicago-filmed hit Marvel Television series Ironheart: Director and Executive Producer SAM BAILEY, and Writer/Producer CHINAKA HODGE. Veteran powerhouses reveal the dynamics of their partnership as they navigated the ebbs and flows of producing the series.
On Set: Conversations is a dynamic speaker series featuring in-depth conversations between directors and the creative forces behind the camera, examining how vision becomes execution. Each session offers a real-time look at the craft, while exploring the art of collaboration, relationships, problem-solving, and instinct required to navigate the unknown and deliver a unified story on screen.
SAM BAILEY BIO
Sam Bailey is an Emmy-nominated writer and director from Chicago. Bailey directed and co-executive produced the first half of Marvel's series IRONHEART. She is the co-creator of the acclaimed Emmy-nominated web series BROWN GIRLS and the creator of the Gotham-nominated web series YOU'RE SO TALENTED, which premiered at Tribeca. Bailey served as a producer and director of Netflix’s DEAR WHITE PEOPLE. Bailey directed the Powderkeg digital series EAST OF LA BREA (SXSW Selectee, Urban World Film Festival Winner) and several episodes of television, including THE CHI. Bailey received praise for her examination of gender and patriarchy in her short film MASCULINE/MASCULINE, which premiered on Vice. Bailey's work has been featured in many publications, and she was included on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, The Root’s 100 Most Influential African Americans, and received Shadow and Act’s Rising Award. Sam was recently awarded OTV's inaugural Beyond the Screen Legacy Award in honor of their ten-year anniversary.
CHINAKA HODGE BIO
Chinaka Hodge is a poet, playwright, and screenwriter. She attended USC's School of Cinematic Arts MFA in the Writing Division with a focus in Augmented Reality/ARG. She has appeared on two seasons of HBO’s Def Poetry and is a Kennedy Center Next50 recipient.
Chinaka's screenwriting credits include RISE, SNOWPIERCER (HBO/MAX), AMAZING STORIES (APPLE+), and THE MIDNIGHT CLUB (NETFLIX). Chinaka is Head Writer/Executive Producer of Disney+ / MARVEL’s series IRONHEART, which focuses on the adventures of black girl tech genius, Riri Williams. Chinaka is also a mom to a brilliant 5-year-old.
