Bring a sound of home into the room.
Led by Taiwanese narrative and sound artist YANG Yu-Chiao, this workshop begins with a simple introduction to how hearing works. Participants then turn to sounds they associate with home. Through listening, writing, and vocal exercises, they use onomatopoeia to give form to remembered sounds. If no existing word feels quite right, they are invited to invent one of their own.
The sounds and words created during the workshop will become part of The House of Onomatopoeia – Berlin one day later, allowing participants to contribute directly to the performance. No previous experience is required.
Facilitator Info:
YANG Yu-Chiao 楊雨樵 is a narrative and sound artist researching the narratology of oral literature. He combines storytelling, vocal performance, extended oral techniques, and blackboard writing to create experimental audiovisual works focused on onomatopoeia, ideophones, and auditory literature. His work has been presented across Europe and Asia, and he teaches at Weiwuying.
