About Event

Join us for our next Read for the Planet session, hosted by Climate Circle Lisbon!

We are a community of climate enthusiasts who meet regularly to grow our knowledge and spark conversations on the many facets of the climate crisis. Next, we’ll be reading Fire Weather: A True Story from a Hotter World by John Vaillant. It tells the story of the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire in Canada and what it reveals about living in a hotter, more fire-prone world. It’s hard to imagine a timelier read, with Portugal in the middle of one of its worst fire seasons in years.

About the Book:
In May 2016, a massive blaze tore through Fort McMurray, the hub of Canada’s oil industry, forcing 88,000 people to flee in a single afternoon. Vaillant follows the events of that day while also pulling back the lens to explore how fire has shaped human history, how fossil fuels have reshaped the planet, and why these kinds of megafires are becoming our new normal. Winner of the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction and named one of the best books of the year by The New York Times, it’s part investigative journalism, part history, and part warning.

Who’s it for?
