About the event
When I started lifting, I was intimidated, lost, and nowhere near consistent. I kept copying things from youtube and instagram without really understanding the movements, and falling off after few tries.
The thing is, most classes just tell you what to do for 45 minutes, but rarely go into the details such as the why. A personal trainer can teach you the how and why, but that's a big commitment, and finding the right one is hard. And even then, a session is only an hour, and most of it has to go on getting the workout in, so the theory rarely gets the time it deserves.
So we went looking for an event that actually taught the theory behind strength training, in a room full of women. We couldn't find one, so we built it.
That's Lift Lab, understand what you're doing and why, then put it into practice, together.
What is Lift Lab
Lift Lab is our brand new educational strength experience for women+. It's a premium three-hour event that combines a focused lecture on the principles of strength training, a coached group session, and a curated social atmosphere. You'll leave understanding exactly what you're doing, and why, so training on your own no longer feels like guesswork, all in a room full of women figuring it out alongside you.
One evening, three parts:
Learn the what, how and why, the theory behind your lifts
Practice, a fully coached strength session
Connect, time with other women getting into lifting
This edition: Day 2, Female Health and Female Strength, Muscle & Strength
Day two of our six-month anniversary weekend stays with the theme, a celebration of female health and female strength, and gets into something most of us were never really taught: how your muscles actually work, and what that means for the way you train.
This isn't about women versus men, or who's better, that's the wrong game. It's about understanding your own body, so no one gets to tell you what you're capable of. Because so much of what women are handed about training (don't lift heavy, you'll get bulky, stick to light weights and high reps) is myth, not fact, and knowing the difference changes how you train.
With our lead coach, Jo, we'll look at what the science actually says:
What: what the real physiological differences between female and male bodies are when it comes to muscle and strength, what actually makes muscle grow and get stronger, and the difference between strength and hypertrophy
Why: why so many of the "rules" women are handed are myths, and what the evidence actually says instead
How: how to train with your body rather than against it, including lifting heavy without fear of "bulk," and trusting that you can build real strength
Everything we cover is based on averages, which describe groups, not you. Your own body, history and goals always matter more, so take what's useful and hold the rest lightly.
You'll leave understanding your body better, and with a clearer, more confident way to train it.
