Midday Power Hour | Reading the Signs (Ayat) of Allah in Nature

Join us for a reflective Midday Power Hour with Sevim Kalyoncu — environmental educator, naturalist, and Executive Director of Green Muslims — for a session that invites you to slow down and reconnect with Allah's signs all around us.
This session will explore what Islam teaches us about the Book of Nature, our role as stewards of the earth, and what the local flora, fauna, and fungi around HAWA Center have to tell us. We'll begin with a discussion on major Islamic principles connected to the natural world, then step outside for a short nature walk to observe, reflect, and reconnect.
What to expect:
A grounding discussion on Islam's teachings about nature and our responsibilities
An introduction to Green Muslims and Innate Nature LLC
A short nature walk around HAWA Center to observe local plants, animals, and fungi
Quiet reflection on Allah's signs in the world around us
No prior knowledge needed — just an open heart and a willingness to step outside.

About Sevim: Sevim Kalyoncu is the Executive Director of Green Muslims, a Washington D.C.-based nonprofit empowering the Muslim community to deepen its relationship with nature through faith-informed environmental stewardship. A certified Virginia Master Naturalist, naturalist interpreter for Fairfax County Park Authority, and yoga instructor, Sevim holds a B.S. from Georgetown University and a master's from the University of Chicago. Her work sits at the intersection of faith, nature, and community — helping people see the natural world as a direct pathway to Allah.
