About Event

If France exported the myth of the Parisienne, why has Italy—one of the world's fashion capitals—never produced an equivalent figure?

During this second edition of Le Salon Curioso, we'll use fashion as a starting point to explore much bigger questions about Italy, from regional identities and social class to media narratives and cultural myths.

Joining me is Angelica Frey, a Milan-born, Boston-based writer whose work examines Italy through fashion, pop culture and society.

Together, we'll discuss questions such as:

• Why did the world invent the Parisienne, but never the Milanese?

• What does "Italian style" actually mean?

• How do geography and class influence the way Italians dress?

• Why has Italian fashion historically been associated with mature women rather than youth culture?

• What do brands like Miu Miu, The Attico and La DoubleJ reveal about contemporary Italy?

Le Salon Curioso is a conversation—not a lecture. Expect an engaging discussion followed by plenty of time for audience questions and exchange.
