✏️ Q&A: The Art Of Short Stories w/ Niamh Mulvey [FREE]
Short Stories have been a popular home for some of the greatest writers in history, from Chekov to Hemingway, Angela Carter, Neil Gaiman, and many others. They are, as Gaiman says, "tiny windows into other worlds …They are journeys you can make to the far side of the universe and still be back in time for dinner."
How can we start to master the craft of short story writing?
Join us for a Q&A with writer and editor Niamh Mulvey.
Niamh's first entry into publication was through short stories published in Banshee and The Stinging Fly. Years later, her short story collection Hearts & Bones: Love Songs for Late Youth was snapped by up Picador and published to great acclaim. This year her debut novel The Amendments, a literary novel was heralded as 'the book of a nation'.
In this Q&A we'll explore:
How to start expanding on your idea
How to develop characters
Why setting and place matter
How to create movement for your short tale
How to break free from the tension, the fear, the stiffness that is preventing you from doing creative work.
Niamh is also running our upcoming 4-Week Sprint: ✏️ Get Started With Short Stories, kicking off on October 7.
