Moratorium: Exhibition Opening

​Mitte Daily® presents: Moratorium, a solo exhibition by Zuzanna Skiba in support of a better future for Torstraße.

​As of today, the Berlin Senate is moving ahead with Torstraße’s “renovation” project. The construction on the western section is scheduled to begin this fall. It is expected to take three and a half years.

​The project cuts the sidewalk in half while preserving four lanes of car traffic. It also kills a quarter of the 140 trees along the way.

​The neighbourhood has not taken the Senate’s plan lightly. Every Wednesday for the past six weeks, residents and local business owners have been gathering to protest.

​Among them is Zuzanna Skiba, a visual artist and a Deutscher Künstlerbund member who’s lived and worked in the area for more than 15 years.

​Trained as a cartographer, Zuzanna creates landscapes that bring in the perspectives from above, from below, and from within.

​This Wednesday, at the start of Berlin Art Week, a selection of her work, as curated by Daria Efremova, comes together at Mitte Büro, with some pieces on view for the first time.

​Conceived as a visual extension of the ongoing Torstraße protests, the exhibition asks for a moment of suspension before irreversible change.
