About Event

This October we are pleased to host local treasure Julia Fine, who will be reading from The Upstairs House (Harper Perennial, 2022).

The Upstairs House offers "a provocative meditation on new motherhood," as a woman's postpartum "psychological unraveling becomes intertwined with the ghostly appearance of children's book writer, Margaret Wise Brown," author of Goodnight Moon. Join us for a reading and discussion of postpartum mental illness, maternal desire, creative guilt, and much more.

Julia Fine is the author of the novels Maddalena and the Dark, The Upstairs House, winner of the Chicago Review of Books Award for Fiction, and What Should Be Wild, which was shortlisted for the Bram Stoker Award for Superior First Novel. As Margaux Eliot, she is the author of the novel Honeymoon Stage. She teaches writing in Chicago, where she lives with her family.

What is MOM BRAIN?

Each month, we invite a writer to share their own poetry or prose, followed by a loosely facilitated conversation. The session closes with our guest reading a kids’ book of their choice. Like story time, but with books for grown-ups too! Babies and kids welcome, but not required ✨

*Open to parents, caregivers, grandparents, chosen family, the parent curious, etc.

Hosted by Caroline Calvert, Claire Seizovic, and Erica Stern.

Friday, October 24th @ 10am
