New to Animal Welfare? Veganism vs Donation Offsetting
For those curious about Animal Advocacy, next Wednesday on the 11th of March, EA is collaborating with the Cambridge Animal Advocacy Forum to host an event for those new to animal welfare! This event is great for those who have considered helping animals in the past and are wondering how to find out more.
This week we'll be discussing the topic of veganism versus offsetting.
Veganism is any diet or lifestyle which aims to eliminate the use of animal products
Offsetting is where an individual allocates a certain amount of their own income or wealth to counterweight against the moral impact of their consumption of animal products.
This debate was triggered when the offsetting charity Farm Kind released a campaign called "Forget Veganuary". Despite the fact that this campaign was in part coordinated with Veganuary, it still caused a large amount of controversy.
I think this debate is perfect for those curious about the world of animal advocacy, its controversies, its different methods, as well as demonstrating that not all vegans and animal advocates agree
To all those new and old to animal welfare, I hope to see you on Wednesday.
