Business Model Clinic
DOES YOUR STARTUP ACTUALLY WORK?
A good startup idea is only the beginning. The bigger question is: can the business model actually work?
Business Model Clinic is an interactive session designed for student founders, aspiring entrepreneurs, and builders to understand how the different parts of a startup connect — from customers and value propositions to revenue, channels, and key activities.
Rather than just learning about the Business Model Canvas (BMC), participants will put it into practice through group challenges, peer feedback, founder advice, and hands-on activities.
Whether you already have a startup, are exploring an idea, or simply want to understand how businesses are built, this is a space to learn, challenge your thinking, and turn ideas into action.
BMC Overview
Get introduced to the Business Model Canvas and understand how the different parts of a startup work together.
Participants will work in groups to explore key areas such as:
Customer Segments
Value Proposition
Revenue Streams
Channels
Key Activities
Each group will discuss why their assigned area matters and how changes in one part of the business model can affect the rest.
The goal is to understand that a startup is built on connected assumptions — not isolated ideas.
Good Cop / Bad Cop
Put your startup thinking to the test.
Participants will work in teams to create a startup based on a given challenge or theme before presenting their idea to another group.
The other group will take on two roles:
Good Cop
Highlights what works, what is promising, and what could create value.
Bad Cop
Challenges assumptions, identifies weaknesses, and asks the difficult questions.
Through this activity, participants will learn how to look beyond whether an idea simply sounds good and start asking:
Founder Hot Seat
Have a startup idea, challenge, or question you want help with?
Participants can volunteer for the Founder Hot Seat and speak directly with the founder/speaker about what they are currently building or struggling with.
Participants can receive personalised feedback on areas such as:
Their startup idea
Business model challenges
Customer assumptions
Validation
Revenue or growth
What they should focus on next
This is an opportunity to receive practical advice based on your own startup situation, rather than general entrepreneurship theory.
Next Action Steps
Learning is useful — but what matters is what you do next.
Towards the end of the session, participants will reflect on what they have learned and create a simple action plan for their startup or idea.
Participants will identify:
What they need to improve or test
One practical action they can take within the next few days
Who they may need to speak to
When they plan to take action
The goal is for participants to leave the session with clear next steps, not just new ideas.
