About Event

A 3-hour participatory workshop where you prototype physical artefacts of AI that might exist in the future.

Hands-On-Prototyping | Design Futures | Tangible Intelligence

About

This workshop aims to imagine and prototype tangible artefacts of AI of the future that move beyond the current landscape of digital chatbots and smart devices. Using participatory futures and hands-on kitbashing, we will attempt to build newer physical systems that AI could take shape as - physical interfaces we are yet to see.

There already exists a strong image of Artificial Intelligence in our collective consciousness, often heavily shaped by existing AI conglomerates and popular media. We are interested in imagining and exploring alternative and diverse technological possibilities by giving everyone a say in shaping the future of AI.

Who

Limited spots: 20 people - first come, first served [Free of cost]

The workshop is open to anyone curious about or interested in imagining the futures surrounding AI. You could be a student who knows nothing about technology or a tech professional actively working on AI - everybody is welcome. No prior experience in AI / Design / Prototyping required.

Prerequisites: Curiosity, a willingness to think and explore and enthusiasm for hands-on making.

Optional: Bring an object that you don’t use anymore and wouldn’t mind discarding (one which you wouldn’t mind breaking or opening up)

Why

The workshop aims to explore new possibilities at the rich intersection of tangible objects and Artificial Intelligence. Through hands-on artefact creation, participants will provoke conversation about the varied futures of AI and its impact on our everyday socio-cultural reality.

Note: All artefacts built during the session will remain with the facilitators for post-workshop documentation. Should your creation be featured in future publications or exhibitions, you will receive full creator credits.

Design Science Lab Collective

Design Science Lab is a participatory Design Research Lab born at NID, National Institute of Design - Ahmedabad and is currently transitioning from an academic space to an Independent Collective. Our work lies in the experimental intersections of Design, Technology and the futures.
