Invited Rehearsal: Critique Cabaret
INSIDE THE REHEARSAL ROOM: CRITIQUE CABARET, BEFORE ITS EDINBURGH PREMIERE.
This August, Mandy Harris Williams takes Critique Cabaret to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Before it goes, we're opening the rehearsal room for one afternoon in New York.
Join us at LDK Productions in Midtown for a full run-through of the show in its Edinburgh form — alongside press and a small group of invited guests — by the performer Dazed Magazine says "makes cultural criticism a performance in its own right."
Schedule:
3:45pm – Doors open
4pm – Run-through of Critique Cabaret
4:45pm – Q&A and mingling
5:30pm – Fin
Coming early? Bottoming for Jesus — also Edinburgh-bound — runs in the same room at 2pm. You're welcome at both.
About Critique Cabaret:
Does glamour offer refuge for the beleaguered intellectual, or is it a trojan horse for delivering critical theory?
Critical theory is transformed into cabaret glamour in this Black, queer, feminist reimagining of Cabaret where pop spectacle is the show. Oration, original music, dance and projected video collide in a show about attention, survival and the cost of staying politically coherent in public.
Do you stay or do you leave? Do you fight or do you party? Do you keep performing under power, or step out from under the demand to make sense?
Only Mandy knows.
